What are the precautions for using a clamp meter?

2021-11-26

Clamp meter core What is the selection method?

  1. Before use, carefully read the clamp meter core instructions to understand whether it is AC or DC dual-use.

  2. The circuit voltage being tested must not exceed the value displayed in the clamp meter. Otherwise, it may cause grounding accidents or electric shock hazards.

  3. Only one phase conductor's current can be measured at a time. The measured conductor is located in the center of the clamp window; multiple conductors cannot be clamped in the window for measurement.

  4. Before measuring with the clamp meter, first estimate the magnitude of the current to be measured and then determine the range to be used. If it cannot be predicted, you can first use a larger range and then appropriately switch to a smaller one for correct reading. Do not use a small current range to measure a large current. Prevent damage to the clamp meter core instrument.

  5. The clamp must be tightly closed during measurement. If there is noise after closing, open the clamp and close it again. If the noise is not eliminated, the various mating surfaces on its path should be cleaned; wipe clean if there is dust.

  6. Since the clamp ammeter itself has low accuracy, the following method can be used when measuring small currents. The conductor of the circuit being tested can be rotated several times and then placed in the clamp of the clamp meter for measurement. At this time, the current value displayed in the clamp meter is not the actual measured value; the actual current is the reading in the clamp meter divided by the number of turns of the wire winding.

  7. To prevent electric shock, do not perform live operation during maintenance.

What are the precautions for the clamp meter core?

Clamp meter cores are divided into high-voltage and low-voltage types and are used to directly measure the current of a circuit without disconnecting the circuit. The usage method of the clamp meter core is as follows:

(1) When using a high-voltage clamp meter, pay attention to the voltage rating of the clamp ammeter. Do not use a low-voltage clamp meter to measure the current of a high-voltage circuit. When measuring with a high-voltage clamp, two people should operate it. During measurement, wear insulating gloves, stand on an insulating mat, and do not touch other equipment to prevent short circuits or grounding.

  (2) When observing the meter, pay special attention to maintaining a safe distance between the head and the live part. The distance between certain parts of the body and the live body must not be less than the total length of the clamp meter.

  (3) When measuring in a high-voltage circuit with a clamp meter core, it is forbidden to measure other meters with wires from the clamp ammeter. When measuring the current of each phase of a high-voltage cable, the distance between the cable head wires is more than 300 mm, the insulation is good, and it can only be carried out until it is considered convenient to measure.

  (4) When measuring the current of a low-voltage fuse or a horizontal array of low-voltage busbars, the clamp meter core should be protected with insulating material before measurement to prevent short circuits.

  (5) Clamp meter core measurement is strictly prohibited during cable connection. The insulation level of the cable head is low, preventing ground explosions from threatening personal safety.

  (6) Clamp meter core After the measurement, pull the switch to the gear position to prevent accidental overcurrent during the next use. Store in a dry indoor environment.
