Clamp meter core Technical conditions
When electricians need to constantly open the circuit to measure the current, they need to use a clamp meter core. A clamp meter core is an instrument used to measure the current in live electrical circuits. It is a commonly used measuring tool for electricians. Clamp meters are divided into two categories: clamp AC ammeters and clamp AC and DC ammeters. Some can also measure AC voltage.
The essence of a clamp meter core is composed of a current transformer and a rectifier meter. The current-carrying conductor being measured acts as the primary winding of the current transformer, and the secondary winding of the current transformer on the core is connected to the rectifier meter. According to the proportional relationship between the primary and secondary windings of the current transformer, the rectifier meter can display the current value of the measured circuit.

A clamp AC/DC meter is an electromagnetic system instrument. The current-carrying conductor placed in the jaws of the clamp acts as the exciting coil. The magnetic flux forms a closed loop in the core. The electromagnetic measuring mechanism is located in the gap in the middle of the core and deflects under the influence of the magnetic field, resulting in a reading. Because its deflection is not affected by the measured current, it can measure both AC and DC currents. Clamps are available in analog pointer and digital types. Standard detection range: AC and DC are both 20A ~ 200A or 400A, and can also detect large currents up to 2000A; there are also leakage current detection products that can detect small currents of several mA, and products that can detect non-sinusoidal waves such as transformer power supplies and switching power supplies.
Clamp meters are easy to use. To measure current, simply clamp the live conductor to be measured into the clamp core of the clamp meter, and then read the reading on the digital display panel or indicator panel. It's easy to use. Just clamp the measurement wire. However, now, the widespread use of digital clamp meters has added many multimeter functions to clamp meters, such as instruments for voltage, temperature, and resistance. Different functions can be selected via a knob, and the usage is different from that of general digital multimeters. Please refer to the corresponding manual for the meaning of some special function buttons.
Clamp meter core Usage: (1) Mechanical zero adjustment before measurement. (2) Select the appropriate range, select a large range first, then select a small range or estimate the value according to the nameplate. (3) When using the range and the reading is not clear, the measured conductor can be wound several turns. The number of turns should be based on the number of turns in the center of the clamp. Then, reading = indicated value × measurement range / full deflection × number of turns (4) After the measurement is completed, set the switch to the measurement range. (5) During measurement, the measured conductor should be placed in the center of the clamp, and the clamp should be tightly closed to reduce errors. The voltage of the measured circuit should be lower than the rated voltage of the clamp meter. When measuring the current of a high-voltage circuit, wear insulated gloves, insulated shoes, and stand on an insulated mat. The jaws should be tightly closed, and the range should not be changed under power.
